Because of the electric part of the instrument, acoustic electrics can be much louder and sound somewhat different. Another difference is that electric acoustics can be played like acoustics without any electricity as well. Electric guitars cannot do this and always need to be amplified to be heard loud enough.

The guitar is played in nearly all music whether it's rock and roll, country, poppy, or even classic. The reason is simple. It's an easy to play instrument and many people love the way it sounds.
